Where and when to plant the Korean fir?
For the Korean fir to flourish, prefer a acid to neutral soil. It is better to avoid soils that are too calcareous.
On the exposure side, it is preferable to place your conifer in the soleil for better development. It tolerates shady spots, but its growth will be affected.
The ideal time to plant your tree is at autumn. This allows a better rooting of the tree before the arrival of winter. Planting in the spring is possible, but you will have to watch the watering closely.
How to plant the Korean fir?
The growth of the Korean fir is rather slow, but in 10 years you can still obtain a tree measuring between 5 and 8 m high !
Planting is usually done in the ground (pot planting is not really recommended).
- Start by moistening the root ball.
- Dig a hole about 1 m wide and 0.70 m deep.
- Add some potting soil to the hole, but definitely don’t add manure or any other fertilizer, as this will burn the roots!
- Place your tree in the middle of the hole, taking care not to hurt the roots and without burying the collar.
- Fill the hole with dirt and potting soil.
- Tamp the soil around the foot while creating a basin that will be used for watering.
- Water generously.
How to maintainKorean Abies ?
The Korean fir does not really require care. Nevertheless, watering is still a mandatory passage in case of drought during its first years of life or if you planted it in the spring.
This conifer does not even need to be pruned.
It is not susceptible to diseases, only midges can sometimes attack very young subjects.
